I’ve been feeling quite under the weather this week, and it’s taking all of my energy just to write this post. I seem to always get sick during December since I usually have a huge uptick in social events. These past few weekends I’ve been busy every. single. day. For someone who is usually a hermit on the weekends, it’s finally starting to take a toll. I go on vacation starting Saturday so I just have to make it until Friday and then I’m FREEEEEE for nine days!
However, I wanted to pop in and give you some updates on what I’ve been doing lately besides reading (or my lack of), and also let you know my posting schedule for the rest of the year (!?)
This time of year it seems like all of my friends and I try to get together and sneak in a catch up before the holidays. This year has been no different. I’ve been meeting up with friends after work for dinner for the past couple of weeks. It’s been so nice to see everyone. I’ve noticed as you get older it’s harder to see your friends regularly. Everyone is working and on their own schedule, so when we can see each other it’s always a fun time.
Last weekend was probably my busiest yet! The boyfriend surprised me with tickets to see the Nutcracker this year as my Christmas present and I WAS SO EXCITED! I had never seen the Nutcracker before, and it always seemed like the perfect Christmas-y event. We went to a matinee because we’re secretly 80 and love to be home in the evenings 😉 . It was gorgeous and beautiful, and all of the adjectives. Then Monday we had my boyfriend’s work holiday party, which was very fun but we didn’t get home until very late. And in typical Seattle fashion it was pouring rain and super windy. Tuesday is when I woke up with whatever I have now. I think my body is telling me, girl enough, stop, go back to being a hermit.
In book related news, I’m still reading Vicious. I have about 60 pages left. I should have finished it by now, but with not feeling very well and being so busy I haven’t had the time. I will probably finish it this weekend though.
I also started To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han because I wanted something cozy to read over the holiday. I’ve watched the movie probably six times now and each time I love it more and more so I decided to finally start the book. I’m only about 40 pages in but it’s so cute!
I have shelved Game of Thrones for now simply because I realized I didn’t want to read it yet, ha! I also shelved Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb because I was getting too heavy on the fantasy genre and wanted to break it up. I am still slowing reading Stalking Jack the Ripper, but haven’t read it in a few weeks. It just got to be too slow for me. One of my closest friends did say it get’s better, so maybe I’ll believe her and finish the damn thing. 😉 I currently have The Library Book checked out from my library, but I’m not in the mood for a non-fiction read right now. The book currently has over 500 people waiting for it so I won’t be able to renew it, so I might just return it and buy it instead. That way I can pick it up when I’m in the mood for it because I definitely want to read it. And before anyone asks, I still haven’t started Queen of Air and Darkness. I’m waiting for my vacation to start reading it. It hasn’t been too long since I’ve finished Kingdom of Ash, and I don’t know if I really want to start yet ANOTHER 900 page book just yet.
For all of you non-fiction lovers out there, I saw on the Kindle daily deals that a favorite book of mine is currently $1.99. The book is called Chasing Aphrodite and it details the (somewhat) scandalous beginnings of the Getty Museum in California. We studied this case in my museum law class in graduate school, and I’m still blown away by it. Basically if you love true crime, art theft, art forgeries, or anything related, this is the book for you! So if you’re reading this today (12/19) scoop it up! 🙂
I’ve created a reading list for next year that will go up very soon. It’s the most books in a single year that I will be trying to read so yay! We’ll see how far I’ll get.
I probably won’t be posting a December wrap up in terms of my December TBR post because, uhh, well, I failed miserably at it. I haven’t read ANYTHING that I said I was going to except for the Ghosts of the Shadow Market short stories and those I listened to on audiobook. I’ve decided to forgo a set TBR monthly list and will probably just do posts on my updated 2019 reading list.
Downtown Seattle during the holidays is my favorite! It’s so festive. There’s lights everywhere, everyone seems to be a happy mood, and the best part is the market (pike place market) is SO quiet. You can easily move in and out of the shops, and my favorite place, Piroshky Piroshky has NO line. In the summer it’s impossible to go there without waiting for an insane amount of time. I work close to the market so one of my favorite things lately has been to get off the bus a few stops before my stop and to walk through the market early in the morning. It’s so peaceful and reminds me why I love living here.
To end this insanely long post, I wanted to give you all a heads up that I probably won’t write or post anything next week due to the holiday. If I’m feeling better this weekend, I will go ahead and schedule some posts for next week, but I won’t guarantee it. I have a feeling next week is going to be really busy for me. The boyfriend and I are staying in the city and decided to cook our dinner again. Cooking Thanksgiving dinner was busy, so I can only imagine Christmas dinner will be no different. I have to start prepping things beginning on the 23rd and I know we want to try and get out of the city for a day or maybe two — depending on the weather. Plus we have tentative plans to see some of our friends, and I want to spend a day doing some Christmas shopping (for ourselves).
So, if you don’t hear from me next next week, I hope you all have a great holiday filled with lots of great food and lots of love. I know the holiday season can be tough for a lot of people so just know I will be thinking of you, and sending you a big hug.
Until next time!
