Recent Books I’ve Acquired

Hey friends! Sorry about not really posting last week. I ended up coming down with a cold and took a couple of sick days to rest and get better. Now that I’m feeling healthy and well rested, I wanted to pop on here and share some of the books I have recently bought.  I’ve recently acquired quite — by accident of course. 😉

So, a couple of weeks ago one of my friends and I decided to pop into a few thrift stores and one of the thrift stores we went into had a book sale going on — buy four get the fifth one free — so I HAD to buy five. 😉 They were:

White Teeth by Zadie Smith
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
This is for Women who Don’t Give a Fuck by Janne Robinson

Then, a few days later I popped into one of my favorite used bookstores and found these three books.

True Colors by Kristin Hannah
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset

THEN, I heard Barnes & Noble was having a big blowout sale, so of course I had to pop in and see if I could find any gems, and of course I did. They were:

The Butchering Art: Joseph Lister’s Quest to Transform the Grisly World of Victorian Medicine by Lindsey Fitzharris
The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner
The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
Jane Austen: Four Classic Novels by Jane Austen

My mom then sent me a gift card to Barnes & Noble last week, so I uhhhh of course had to put it to good use…’s what I found:

Shades of Magic: Volume 1: The Steel Prince by V.E. Schwab
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
Red Sister by Mark Lawrence
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

FINALLY here are some Kindle e-books I picked up recently — most were on sale or a daily deal. I did have a few pre-orders come in that I forgot about. oops!

Cravings by Chrissy Teigan
The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon (pre-order)
The Alienist by Caleb Carr
Burying the Honeysuckle Girls by Emily Carpenter

The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan
Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters
Shadowcaster by Cinda Williams Chima
Deathcaster by Cinda Williams Chima (pre-order)
When We Caught Fire by Anna Godberson

Annnnnd that’s it, and to be honest, I think that is way too much. I definitely think I overdid it these last couple of months, and will probably not buy any books for at least a month or two. I say this now, but my local library’s used book sale is next weekend — hehe.

I tried to get some books that are out of my normal reading comfort zone as a way to find new authors, books, and genres. I haven’t read any of these yet as I’m still trying to catch up on some black logs.

However, I would love to hear from you. Have you read any of these books? What would you recommend I start with?

Until next time!

    1. Miiiiiight have overdone it just a wee bit, hahaha. But I think I’m cutting myself off for a while except for Book of the Month and pre-orders because damn, I need to get reading. The cover for Sisters of Winter Wood was just too pretty to pass up and it was the last copy at my B&N for the blowout sale so I felt like it was meant to be.

    1. A couple of friends of mine read The Wife Between Us and really liked it so I thought okay, I’ll snag it. I read Vicious by Schwab right before the end of the year and LOVED IT. I’m still plugging away at Vengeful but got distracted. Hopefully I can finally finish it by the end of the week!

  1. So many goodies! I’ve read Dark Places by Gillian Flynn – I think I had my hopes up too high after Gone Girl, so I was a little disappointed by it to be honest, but I know that so many people love it so I hope that’s you! Would love to compare thoughts after you read it. And I’ve heard great things about The Wife Between Us!

    1. haha so many! I didn’t really like Gone Girl and a friend of mine who also didn’t like Gone Girl really liked Dark Places so I’m trying it out to see if this one can redeem Gillian Flynn in my eyes, haha. I really loved the movie version of Gone Girl though.

  2. You are a serious reader 😉
The Butchering Art is a very interesting read (all except for the last quarter but this is not the author’s fault because the subject matter is naturally boring in that part).
I can’t do the book justice in one comment so check out my review
But I will say that it’s very visceral and not for the faint of heart.
But if you like medical history and have a keen interest in the origin of sterile surgery (or even if you’re just generally interested) this is the book for you 😉
