#SmashYourTBR Read-A-Thon Results

As some of you might remember, last week I joined in on Marta’s  (The Cursed Books) #SmashYourTBR Read-A-Thon, and I’m back to give you all an update on how it went.

You can read my original #SmashYourTBR post here

To be honest, it could have gone a LOT better….sigh. I ended up being a lot more busy last week than I had anticipated and then came down with a pretty good sinus headache. FUN TIMES. But regardless I was able to make some progress.

ical Magic.

I didn’t finish this book.  Sigh, I tried SO hard to like this book, but after reading over half of it, it wasn’t getting any better. I decided to abandon it. I hate abandoning books because part of me always thinks “it’ll get better, just keep going.” But in this case it didn’t.

Tower of Dawn.

WOOHOO!!! I FINALLY FINISHED THIS BOOK WOOOHOOOO!!! But seriously, this book was a struggle at times. I still gave it 5 stars on Goodreads because the last 100 pages or so made up for the rest of the book. EPIC. You can read my review of Tower of Dawn here.

I made it about 50 pages in, definitely not where I want to be at this point, but it’s a slow start. I originally got this book from the library, but soon realized that this is a book where I can see myself picking up and putting down from time to time so I decided to buy the e-book. I haven’t read the book since Friday, which is already telling to me, but I’m going to try to stick this one out. Everyone who I’ve talked to that has read this book said it’s a slow start but picks up. I hope they’re right!

Kingdom of Ash.

I…uh..read the first page? Sigh. Definitely bummed I didn’t get farther than the first page, but oh well. I bought the e-book originally, but after seeing everyone else’s pictures of how pretty the gold foil was I knew I had to have a copy of the physical book. I popped into Target after work on Friday and snagged one of the only copies left. And it is prettttty!

The Name of the Wind.

I didn’t get to this one, and I secretly knew I wouldn’t. But I was trying to be optimistic! This is still a high priority on my TBR list, and I will probably start it this week along Kingdom of Ash

That’s not all I read this week. Remember when I said I had all of those library books to pick up? (Which was probably the reason for my original list’s shortcomings) I ended up reading one of the books this weekend: Feminist’s Don’t Wear Pink and Other Lies.

I was curious about this book because I don’t tend to read a lot of “trendy” feminist books. I’d rather read something a bit more academic, but this book did not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down! Obviously, some essays were better than others, but overall I enjoyed it. A more in-depth review will be posted soon – so stay tuned!

I would love to do another Read-A-Thon at some point because it helped me stay accountable. I tend to easily get distracted while reading, and I’m slowly making changes to help with that.

Let me know if you have an tips or tricks to help you stay focused while reading and not somehow find yourself in an endless YouTube black hole at 2am. 😉

Until next time!

  1. Isn’t Outlander a huge book though? It’s definitely one you need to have your own copy of though. I have the ebook, got it on sale a million years ago, and still haven’t read. Oops.

I agree about abandoning books, but sometimes it happens for good reason. Good luck getting the rest of them finished (and I hope you love The Name of the Wind – I’m stuck halfway through because I keep picking other things up, but I’m liking it.)

    1. Outlander is about 630 pages, so yeah a bit big! The library book I got had tiny font too so I kept going cross eyed trying to read it.

I’ve heard really great things about The Name of the Wind so I’m hoping I’ll like it. I’ll probably start it here soon. I’m trying to hold off reading Kingdom of Ash since EVERYONE is reading it right now, so maybe I’ll pick that up instead. 🙂
